Brain Computer Interface

Introduction

There has been so much hype in the media about the brain computer interface (BCI) systems during the past few years (see Wikipedia’s Article on BCI systems for some examples). Although many regard a BCI as a “mind-reader”, the truth is far from that. Actually, most BCI systems are restricted to identify one or two patterns in the brain signals. In this article, I would like to discuss the abilities and the shortcomings of BCI systems in more details. The topics that are covered in this website are as follows:

What is a BCI System?

Methods of Recording Brain Signals

Neurological Phenomenon

Pre-processing of Brain Signals

Feature Extraction in BCI Systems

Feature Selection/Dimension Reduction in BCI Systems

Feature Classification in BCI Systems

Evaluation of BCI Systems

Timing of BCI Systems

Other Topics in the Design of BCI Systems

BCI research centers
